I ran into an issue where I was trying to create several registry keys inside of an already packaged SWV app using the Workspace Admin GUI. It seems that when I try to add a new registry key thats more than one level deep the key either doesn't show up at all (it does show up in the SWV Layer, i.e. HKLM\_SWV_LAYER_1) or registry editor throws an error and won't open the key.
Environment is Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I've tested on 3 different systems with the same result.
Steps to reproduce:
I've attached screenshots showing how to reproduce the issue.
Hello,
I'm working with SWV 7.5.522 under Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 and I've found a bug while trying to do the same that we do under our Windows 7 x86 installation (SWV 6.4.1550).
The problem is the following: if we add global exclusions for drive letters that doesn't exist in the computer (we usually exclude D:\ to Z:\) when you try to do anything in SVSAdmin (create a layer, activate a layer, etc.) then you get an Unexpected error/Error code 1089 message.
We exclude all the drive letters for historical reasons. We've used a lot of SWV versions and we found a lot of bugs in the product while testing Windows 7 in the past. One of them was not exclude a network or USB drive letter, so data was written in the layer instead in the base for the actual drive letter. So, we have continued using the global exclusions for all non hard disk drive letters.
Can you test it in your environment? Is there any more recent version of SWV?
Thanks.
PS: Sorry for my english ...
HI,
In SWV 7.5 version the [TEMP] and [USERPROFILE] variable is not resolving correctly i.e. it by default takes the variable as:
[TEMP] %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\abc\local settings\Temp
[USERPROFILE] %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\abc
While this should have resolved as:
[TEMP] C:\Documents and Settings\abc\local settings\Temp
[USERPROFILE] C:\Documents and Settings\abc
Due to this certain application is not working successfully while in lower version as it resolves, it works
Hence is there any way to change the Variable settings of Symantec 7.5 version?
In win7 and xp when we activate our office 2010 package captured using swv 7.5 virtualisation admin and when we create and save a file using infopath designer 2010 and try to open it using infopath filler 2010 it fails saying "The specified path can not be found" .
The troublshooting that i have done so far leads me to the conclusion that it is related to some faulty resolving of [temp] and [userprofile] in swv 7.5
these variables resolved correctly in lower version of swv 6.1. (This app functionality works fine when captured using lower version swv 6.1)
as per swv 7.5
[TEMP] %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\abc\local settings\Temp
[USERPROFILE] %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\abc
as per swv 6.1
[TEMP] C:\Documents and Settings\abc\local settings\Temp
[USERPROFILE] C:\Documents and Settings\abc
Can anyone please suggest whats going wrong here?
Another issue in windows xp
Virtualised copy of office 2010 captured using swv 7.5 has some weird behaviour related to sent to onenote printer.
When we give print and select the onenote printer it gives multiple prints (each captured copy so far has different no. of prints been given for a single print instance)
This functionality works fine when captured using swv 6.1
Please throw some light on whats going on here??
Hi Guys,
We are trying to capture Firefox with add-ons with SWV. I can happily import to a virgin machine and the layer activates fine but doesn't hold any of our custom settings. The add-ons have not come across either.
Can someone please advise on where I am going wrong.
Thanks
Hi, I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this?
I have Office 2010 captured on Win XP sp1 and running on Win 7 sp1.
If I add an application which includes an office addin as a seperate layer, I get this error when launching Word 2010:
Error 1606. Could not access network location
[:B_]APPDATA:USER_TEMPLATE[_E_]\Microsoft\MSDN\8.0.
The beginning of the variable does not look correct to me. I guessed it should be [_B_] , but I may be wrong on this.
If the variable is wrong, that would explain why the path couldn't be accessed. I have been unable to find any reference to [:B_] in the registry or by a file search.
Other than this one issue, the layer works fine.
[UPDATE] Using the same layers in Win XP, the problem does not occur. I'm hoping I can find a way to avoid a re-capture in Win7.
While we are virtualizing office on Symantec Workspace Virtualization Admin SWV 7.5 on Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit we are facing the following issue:
Let’s us launch InfoPath shortcut and create a template and it will save as x.xsn.
While launching the same file we are getting a prompt saying “Cannot generate new blank form or cannot find the specific file.”
Kindly guide us on this issue.
Hi Community,
I am completely new to this great piece of software: Symantec Workspace Virtualization 7.5
I am using it at home, just for private use. No Streaming, no servers, no big projects, just for keeping my Windows system as clean as possible.
After having virtualized a few applications (on a system I just set up a few days ago) I noticed a - for me - strange behavior of my system: a shortcut, named VZROCK.LNK appears at irregular intervals on my desktop, in the StartMenu or in active folders. It links always to itself, i.e. "C:\Users\Public\Desktop" or "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu". So it's sized 0 bytes at all. In almost split seconds it disappears again. It's even hard to get to properties-Tab in that short time.
I haven't found a way to reproduce it, yet. It doesn't seem to be affected by showing or hiding "hidden"- or "system"-flagged elements. In fact I am not sure whether this has anything to do with SWV at least. I just thought it might have something to do with SWV, because the running Symantec Services are named VzService.exe and vzUser.exe - both with VZ in the name...
Of course I asked my friend google, but there were only one forum entry (http://www.murc.ws/showthread.php?72805-shortcut-vzrock-appears-on-desktop-during-firefox-operations). At least quite actual!
I have a second system set up with nearly the same virtualized applications. Yet, I couldn't notice the same behavior there.
Malware scan with Outpost Security Suite 9 is negative...
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks a lot and best regards,
Nagus
We use SCEP (Forefront) Microsofts AntiVirus product to manage AV in our envrionment. Since mid December, all our dat files fail if we have any layer active. If we deactivate the layer, it updates. Turning the layer back on it fails again. We have tested this on SVS sp7,8 and 7.5. If we turn off the layer, update the dat, reactivate the dat and reboot, the dat file reverts. This is happening on layers that have been around for years or brand new layers.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Hey guys,
Has anyone successfully virtualized IE10 using WVC 6.1 SP8(Possibly 7.5)?
We have IE 8 installed natively as a part of OS (Win7 x86). I have tried to turn off IE component but I always got to the same result. Problem is that when I run the install it downloads required updates but to me it seems that everything is beiing installed after a reboot, before log in.
I can see after capturing that "RunOnce" key has a Data called "BrandClearStubs" with a following value: "RUNDLL32 IEDKCS32.DLL,BrandCleanInstallStubs >{3EE2EE2A-1D4C-4447-8B0E-7B26F2CE5949}" but I dont know how could I ran it as a standalone command and use an option "Add to layer".
I tried some tools which capture what is happening to OS after reboot, then take all these files and registries and place them into layer manually but it did not work.
Does anyone have experience with making it work? Or do you know if LDF for this one is going to be released soon? I would be interested to find a way how to do it also without LDF.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you!
Hi Does anyone know if Workspace virtualization agent works with windows 8.1 and if so what version agent ?
I've installed our current version 6.4.1346 which seems to work fine with windows 7, it installs on windows 8.1 but running a policy to install into a virtual layer on a win 8.1 client stops at the "Detection check for software virtualization agent"
Thanks C
I have a Win 7 64 bit vm. I have installed Symantec Workspace Virtualization 64 bit version 7.5.522.
I am trying to create a new layer & install Office Professional Plus 2013.
The installation fails with Error 1935 with HRESULT 0x80070002.
I need help to fix this error.
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an issue with the Browser Selecion Tool and the Symantec Workspace Virtualization Agent 7.5.522? When I am trying to install the BSOSetup.msi it always comes back with the error "This product requires Symantec Workspace Virtualization to be installed". Or is there anything else I am missing?
Stefan
Given:
the system runs out of space while exporting the layer from SWV admin 7.5. I am assuming the admin is using the C drive for temporary storage while preparing files for export.
Is there any way to direct where the temporary files are stored, or another way around this problem?
Hey there,
I'm wondering if there is someone out there, who can help me with a special issue which we have.
We are looking into SWS and application streming for our VDI environment, I have some packages intergrated into SWS and the streaming works well so far.
One of the packages (VISIO) is not streaming, the user is not receiving any kind of application stream, and the only difference to other packages ist the "current status" whihc is green, but in "waiting for training"
The option "training" is not active (but it does not affect the streaming anyway if i'm activating the option, the result is the same one)
Any ideas?

Alex
Altiris' Symantec Workspace Virtualization (SWV) agent and Windows 7 with IE6
I am working on virtualizing IE6 for our Windows 7 clients using the downloadable LDF files from Symantec. The process successfully creates the .xpf file and virtual session. I have imported and activated the product successfully, but once I attempt to run virtual IE6, and as soon as I click anywhere in the browser, I am receiving the error "iedw.exe - Application Error" "The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application."
I have run virtual IE6 in Windows XP successfully but it is Windows 7 where I really need to run it and cannot. Any help or direction would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
